The Motel from 'Schitt's Creek' Is Up for Sale
The Rosebud Motel — a.k.a. the Hockley Motel — could be yours for $2 million
Published Nov 25, 2020Just like the Johnny Rose, you too could help run the Rosebud Motel. That's right — the motel from Schitt's Creek is up for sale.
In real life, the Rosebud Motel — where the Rose family live in Schitt's Creek's titular town — is actually called the Hockley Motel, and it's located about an hour and a half north of Toronto in Mono, ON. It contains 10 units, and the asking price is $2 million. The property also includes a 6.7 acre site, and there's a two-storey manager's suite and separate cottage.
The real estate listing from Colliers notes that it was also a filming location in The Umbrella Academy and 2005's A History of Violence. According to the listing, the property "is currently not operational."
Schitt's Creek doesn't offer a particularly flattering depiction of the Rosebud Motel, which is shown to have leaks and bugs. It's worth noting that the Hockley Motel was apparently only used for the exterior shots.
Current owner Jesse Tipping told CTV that he hopes the next owner will turn it into a Schitt's Creek-themed motel as a tribute to the show. He said, "The property itself is so beautiful. It's very pretty and it's an incredible spot and the motel itself has had a great history in the community and I hope that somebody who buys it honours that history [and] is able to keep it going."
