Nicki Minaj Appears to Share Anti-Vax Stance After Claiming Her Cousin's Friend's Balls Swelled from the Shot
The artist's tweet about rumoured vaccine side effects went viral — even though it probably already was
Though she cited having a young child as her reason for not wanting to travel, the artist offered up an impressively wild 280-character storytime as a bonus, recounting the tale of her cousin's friend's vaccination side effects that apparently ruined his marriage.
"My cousin in Trinidad won't get the vaccine cuz [sic] his friend got it & became impotent," the artist wrote, claiming that her cousin's friend's testicles got swollen after getting vaccinated. "His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding." True love gets bested by swollen balls once again.
She added: "So just pray on it & make sure you're comfortable with ur [sic] decision, not bullied."

Naturally, the internet was floored by the rap heavyweight's use of her massive platform to promote vaccine hesitancy. Even right-wing correspondent Meghan McCain weighed in, to which Minaj responded, "Eat shit you."
People were also quick to tell Minaj that it sounded like her cousin's friend might have an STD or injury that has nothing to do with the COVID-19 vaccine.
Sorry, this is not a side effect of the vaccine. It is called hydrocele. In adults, the two primary causes are injury or STD (chlamydia or gonorrhea). Probably your cousin's friend was taking one last marriage fling, picked up an STD, & is blaming vaccines. He needs an MD, stat.— Kurt Eichenwald (@kurteichenwald) September 13, 2021
The artist also elaborated on her thoughts, revealing that she's not exactly an anti-vaxxer, admitting that she'll probably be vaccinated at some point so she can go on tour.
"A lot of countries won't let ppl [sic] work w/o the vaccine," Minaj wrote. "I'd def [sic] recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families."
I know babe. A lot of countries won't let ppl work w/o the vaccine. I'd def recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I'm sure I'll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc. https://t.co/7SK5Df0yBf— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) September 13, 2021
You have been tweeting about me for an hour. You not #Tide yet? Mad I'm my own person? Mad the internet can't scare me away? It's always someone who looks like you. Polls are very much a part of research. Real experiences, Open dialogue, etc. Go put on your red nose clown tingz. https://t.co/orBJREaCv6— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) September 13, 2021
Why should we listen to scientists when a rapper's cousin's friend is right there in Trinidad, apparently? In addition to these fun anecdotes, Minaj has polled her followers on Twitter about vaccination preferences in her own "research." Kind of a skewed sample, but okay.
If you or someone you know is still concerned about the safety of COVID vaccines, take note of what the experts have to say [via canada.ca]:
"Only vaccines that are proven to be safe, effective and of high quality are authorized for use in Canada. The COVID-19 vaccines have been rigorously tested during their development and then carefully reviewed by Health Canada. The vaccines can't give you COVID-19 because they don't contain the virus that causes it. The vaccines also can't change your DNA."
